Finally, the system will consist of up to 12,000 satellites. This is a really large amount. They will be placed in low Earth orbit, ie LEO. The project envisages the placement of many satellites at three altitudes: 340 km, 550 km, at an altitude of 1150 km above the Earth. Interestingly, the satellites are not designed for monitoring. They will be in orbit to provide access to the Internet for the whole world.
Elon Musk has a really demanding position. Plans to create a network that can go anywhere in the world are really a very interesting endeavor. Interestingly, the first satellites of this project were launched into orbit in 2019. In addition, by mid-2020, several hundred new satellites had appeared in the same orbit. So a project that seems inaccessible works really well. About 1,500 new satellites have been launched into orbit this year. Falcon 9 missiles are used to transport satellites into orbit. Of course, Elon’s project is widely discussed in the media.
However, it turns out that global coverage is possible, although 12,000 satellites are not yet planned in orbit.
The tower currently has 1,800 satellites. There were more plans, but as you know, the reality confirms. However, project managers believe that with this number of satellites in orbit, they can already reach global coverage. Interestingly, despite the fact that the number of satellites is not planned, the company wants to wait only a few weeks for the solution to begin. They are confident that now everything will be as planned. It turns out that the planned launch of the service is planned by SpaceX … September this year. Probably no one expected Elon Musk’s ministry to begin in a few days. Interestingly, the New York Times showed that scientists have not yet been able to say whether the solutions used are effective. Most of them see that things are going very well.
However, it turns out that if the project starts earlier, Starlink may have some limitations.
Gwyn Schottwell, president of SpaceX, said that in this case, it is difficult to talk about full access to broadband services in all parts of the world. Achieving such a situation will be possible only after obtaining the necessary consent from the authorities of individual countries, which can take a relatively long time. However, as we know, bureaucracy is on a different path from evolution and development, and such a path can hinder it. . The Starlink service is currently being tested only in the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada.

Darksat is an experimental satellite tested by SpaceX. DarkSat uses a color phase system and parabolic antennas to reduce brightness by about 55%. Unfortunately, it must be honestly admitted that, unfortunately, infrared lighting does not solve the problem. Therefore, SpaceX had other plans to solve the problem. Their task was to add parabolic shields to the satellites. All this is to further reduce the amount of light reflected in the VisorSat prototype. SpaceX has also changed the way satellites move in orbit. The point is that it will now use a new method to ascend to the target orbit, which will minimize the reflected sunlight.

Let’s start with the fact that few people connect satellite internet to mobile services. It turns out that the SpaceX project had to change this approach. All this thanks to the introduction of the next satellites and several updates to the software that monitors them. For us to understand each other better, this does not mean that the Internet from SpaceX will work on smartphones that we keep in our pockets on a daily basis. We are talking about the Internet for more and more different types of carriers: buses, trucks and even yachts. It is also very interesting that the target system from SpaceX is to provide data download speeds of 10 Gb / s. These are really great speeds, and it must be admitted that the company has an incredibly ambitious development plan. Currently, Starlink users achieve a download speed of 150 Mb / s, but Elon Musk promises performance such as 300 Mb / s and 20 ms ping.
