We can be proud – we are celebrating the biggest festival of LGBT + cinema in Central and Eastern Europe in Poland. The Quer Film Festival started on April 22 and will last until April 29.

The winner of the Venice Days Audience Award, a Brazilian Oscar nominee, will open the festival at the Private Desert Festival in Venice, which ends in the fall and explores the boundaries between love and personal freedom. The story of a teenager who became accustomed to sexual orientation while learning the truth about his roots.

– With the 13th edition of the LGBT + Film Festival, it returns with a spring version known for its pre-pandemic reality. We are committed to a hybrid formula that will allow viewers and spectators to enjoy the largest queer film festival in Poland, both in the cinema and at home. This year we will visit Warsaw, Bydgoszcz, Konin, Poznan, Wroclaw, Łódź, Gdansk and Krakow, and we will be hosted virtually by the MOJEeKINO.pl platform – programmer Anna Flagmanska invites us.
“This year’s program is a testament to our commitment to the search for cinema that combines inclusion and diversity with a high level of art,” says Flagmanska. – The repertoire includes Polish premieres of titles shown at leading international festivals, as well as works that debut only on the big screen. In addition to full-length plots and documentaries about heroes and heroines representing broad personalities, we will present a record number of short films divided into blocks dedicated to lesbians, gays, transgender and gender. non-binary people. For the first time, they will be joined by separate animated shorts.
Which movies are worth paying attention to?
The film “Girls”, which premiered at the LGBT + Film Festival in Poland, won an audience award at Sundance. Its protagonists are two friends. Is it worth looking for a prince in a fairy tale by force? “The finale of the film is amazing.” Girls “is an original, perverted movie without banal solutions and clichés, and at the same time a pleasant comedy – dramatic entertainment.
It’s great to watch Softie, the story of a boy who falls in love with a French teacher. any attitude that does not escape the clichés known from the story about girls who fall in love with older men. The film strongly defines both the social background and the boy’s difficult home situation. as subjective and obscure as possible.
The film “Love, Spells and All That”, which has previously won awards at a number of festivals around the world, was highly praised by all viewers. This is a very original story of two lesbians in Turkey.
Lesbian and gay short films are also good choices in a variety of conventions, from the comedy “F ^ ¢ k ‘Em R! Ght B @ ¢ k” to the farewell drama with his late wife. All these productions avoid harmful stereotypes and focus on the emotions and feelings of the characters, not their sexuality.
After many festival screenings, authors and experts will meet with the audience, including journalist and director of the documentary “Everything about my child” Piotr Jacoń, actress Magdalena Żak, director Philip Gieldon and sexologist and drug psychotherapist Agatha Stola.
The 13th LGBT + Film Festival will take place on April 22-29 in 8 Polish cities: Warsaw, Krakow (here exclusively on May 9-15), Gdansk, Wroclaw, Lodz, Poznan, Bydgoszcz and Konin, and then online MOJEeKINO platform.
