GrowCube – automatic watering can be viewed from Kickstarter

GrowCube is a project to help Sunday growers who often forget to water their houseplants. Thanks to soil moisture sensors and water dispensers, the device can care for plants when we can’t or simply can’t 🙂

The GrowCube set consists of an irrigation station (with a capacity of 1.5 liters) to which we connect the rubber hoses (we have only 10 meters to cut ourselves) and humidity sensors. We also buy a number of connectors, brackets and four spray nozzles.

GrowCube installation is very simple, it includes more or less five steps. First of all, we need to choose a place and flowers that will be watered automatically. Then we have to cut the rubber hoses (special pliers are included) to the appropriate length. It is important to note that the humidity sensor cable is only one meter long. So we can’t be crazy about the distance water has to go from the GrowCube to the sprinkler.

To make watering more efficient, it is worth finishing the pipes with a spray nozzle. In addition, we can use brackets to prevent the hoses from moving over time.

The manufacturer knows that the humidity sensor must be placed at the appropriate depth in the ground and, most importantly, close to the roots of the plant to provide the most accurate information.

At the final stage of installation, you must connect both the pipes and the sensors to the appropriate slots. They are labeled A to D, so double-check that the pipe and sensor are connected to the same pair of sockets.

Installation is not everything, because GrowCube must be connected to the power and WiFi network to manage it. Currently, Elecrow does not offer access to devices outside of our network.

Special application GrowCube has a large plant database to manage. We can easily find the most popular types and determine your preferred irrigation schedule. As already mentioned, GrowCube obtains real-time soil moisture data presented in special graphs in the program. Built-in schedules are stored in the device’s memory, so there is no need to connect to software or a WiFi network.

In addition, GrowCube has an internal temperature and humidity sensor, thanks to which it also provides information about the environment in which our plants grow.

GrowCube’s water capacity creates much to be desired. If our plants are in great need of H2O, one and a half liters may not be enough. Therefore, the manufacturer allows you to connect an external vessel with a larger capacity.

The device has several mechanisms that detect operational anomalies (lack of water, dosing problem, sensor separation) and prophylactically, for example, block the dose of water or display a message in the application.

In general, I am satisfied with the work of the product. My pre-production unit failed, which means that the final product will be really high quality. GrowCube is not a complicated device, but it is enough to help plants survive in our absence. While using the device, I was a little dissatisfied with the information provided by GrowCube. Humidity is not enough. In the future, I would like Elecrow to provide sensors that measure the pH of the earth and increase the length of the cable for the sensors. One meter is enough – we do not always keep flowers next to each other.


I really like the appearance of the device – modest and elegant. The option to work with up to four plants is a big advantage. Another plus is the utility, which works stably and has about 3,000 different plant bases.

For me, GrowCube was a success and the tomato plantation survived 🙂
