LIDL trade promotion

In line with its international climate strategy, Lidl Polska is pursuing an approach that first involves preventing CO2 emissions, then reducing them, and finally compensating when there is no other option. The company is multifaceted in this area. In addition, it has a contract with an energy vendor that guarantees the issuance of certificates of origin for 100% renewable energy. This means that Lidl Polska will operate only with green energy throughout the year.

The Lidl Polska network has taken more substantial steps in the field of climate neutrality. The company has signed a contract with an energy seller guaranteeing 100% renewable energy. In 2022, all Lidl Polska facilities will be powered only by green energy. What does this mean in practice? Energy seller Lidley provides so-called Origin Guarantees, ie documents confirming the buyer of the environmental values generated as a result of prevented greenhouse gas emissions. The energy seller shall also indicate in the documents the amount of electricity supplied to the distribution network or transmission network from renewable energy sources in renewable energy installations. At the end of the supply year, Lidl Polska will receive a certificate confirming that 100% of the energy consumed in a given calendar year is received from the RES. The document is issued by the President of the Energy Regulatory Authority and then paid by the seller in favor of Lidl. This is a big change for the organization, as well as for the market, which is likely to move in this direction.

The purpose of the climate

Climate change is one of the biggest challenges to sustainable development today. Lidl Polska is taking another important step in her efforts to protect the climate by developing a climate strategy and specific climate goals based on the Science-Based Goals1 methodology. This means that Lidl is an important contributor to the Paris Climate Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 ° C.

Lidl Polska has developed its own specific plans and activities based on the existing carbon footprint, striving to continuously reduce CO2 emissions in operations and the supply chain. According to the International Climate Strategy, Lidl Polska follows an approach in which emissions are initially prevented, then reduced, and finally compensated when there is no other option. By 2030, Lidl intends to reduce emissions by 80% in all countries where the brand exists (compared to 2019). To achieve its ambitious climate goals, Lidl Polska has developed an action plan as part of its climate strategy, which covers both indirect emissions from the company’s supply chains and direct emissions from Lidlin’s own stores and facilities.

Other Lidl activities supporting the reduction of CO2 emissions

Lidl Polska has been involved in sustainable energy management for many years to optimize its processes and reduce the negative impact on the natural environment. The company underwent an audit, which ended with the issuance of the ISO 50001 certificate, an international standard for energy management. This prestigious award is the culmination of a long month of training for the entire team – numerous trainings on conscious use of energy have been conducted for all employees of the company, shops, distribution centers and head offices of the company, and information retrieval processes have been tested. Energy consumption at Lidl Polska facilities has been optimized.

In addition, according to Lidl’s “For a Better Tomorrow” idea, stores use environmentally friendly solutions, such as heat recovery from cooling devices, heating and renovating the facility, and full-energy LED lighting – both inside and outside the facility. parking, along with lighting control aimed at optimizing its consumption. An advanced project that has been commonly used for many years is heat pumps as a renewable energy source. All newly built stores have a photovoltaic unit, which is additionally installed at existing facilities. These solutions are designed to increase the energy efficiency of Lidl facilities, which in turn contributes to the protection of the natural environment.

Lidl Polska also offers its customers free charging stations for electric cars. Currently, the stations operate in 6 branches of Lidl, 2 more in the Distribution Center and the company’s head office.

Another important area of the company’s activity is sustainable range. It turns out that this is also an excellent opportunity to increase climate neutrality. The application of neutral climate products immediately compensates for CO2 emissions from cultivation, production, transport and utilization. The first steps in terms of climate neutrality will cover Lidl Vemondo’s own brand. Under the Vemondo brand, customers will find a wide range of vegan products. In products such as classic tofu, soy yogurt, BIO soy drink and dairy alternatives such as oats, almonds and coconut drinks, customers will soon see a special label indicating that the product is climate-neutral.
