How to use 5G network? Many industries already know how to do this

5G network is not only high speed internet. In fact, fast internet on our phone is its lowest value. The capabilities of the new generation networks are intended for industrial use. How can this be done and what does it give? Let’s look at some examples of such uses.

5G networks have been fixed for high-speed internet

5G network is a product. Commodity to be sold to the buyer. As with many other technologies, individual buyers will benefit the most in terms of numbers. The best argument in this situation is, of course, high-speed Internet on the phone (and not only).

I have the impression that there is still no education about all the other opportunities offered by the 5G network. Its main beneficiaries will be business customers, not individual customers. Enterprises that manage factories, mines, various types of production facilities. This is where 5G has the largest area to prove itself.

At the Huawei Mobile World Congress

For months, Huawei has come under fire from many countries accusing the Chinese supplier of spying. All this is always done without showing any evidence. However, in such a situation, it may seem that Huawei should pay more attention to Asian markets and forgive itself, for example, Europe.

Meanwhile, Huawei had the largest stand at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Unlike the very modest Nokia booth or the closed Ericsson booth, most of it was open to all visitors. They were able to see all the offerings of commercial equipment (from smartphones to computers, tablets, monitors, peripherals, printers and watches) and some solutions in the field of industry and communications. Additional accreditation was required to enter the zone with network and industrial solutions.

I wrote about networking solutions on the occasion of the MBBF conference, and not much has changed on this topic. The emphasis on new base stations and ecology and energy efficiency has not changed in recent months. Although there is a solution worth noting. This is a mobile radio line. The radio switch is used for wireless data transmission and is characterized by a very high capacity. By stretching it gently, it is almost like a wireless optical fiber. Two points are required for the radio switch to work they see each other and are stationary. Huawei’s solution allows you to move points, for example, vertically or horizontally, and the devices adjust their positions so as not to lose connection. A very interesting solution.

Now let’s move on to our main topic, which is the practical use of 5G networks in the industry.

5G network in the industry. Practical applications

Why 5G if you can have optical fiber? It’s good … no optical fiber. Avoiding cable gives you more flexibility in space management and planning. For example, if a company wants to change its production line, there is no need to adapt a new one to the existing cables, which significantly reduces the time required to start production. I remember that thanks to the use of the Huawei 5G network, in a few days it can completely change the production line of smartphones and create a completely new model instead of the previous ten models.

With a 5G network, you can start doing some activities remotely. And let’s start with this example.

Railway terminal

Europe’s most modern railway terminal It is being built in Hungary (Eest-West Gate in Fényeslitke) and is nearing completion. Hungarians can be criticized for their political actions (compulsory!), But they have an interesting approach to business. If someone wants to invest in the country, create jobs and apply new technology – please. As a result, unexpectedly, Hungary may soon become Europe’s technological leader.

The construction of the railway terminal is not complicated. It allows remote control of the crane carrying and returning cargo to freight trains. The crane has routers connected to the base station, and on the other side we have an operator who can control everything in real time, sitting comfortably in the office and taking pictures from many installed cameras. The entire structure of the elevator can move autonomously, adapting to the current state of the train.

Factory with production line

Factories operating on the 5G network are already working on something in 2016. One such facility is the Haier factory in Qingdao, China. How has 5G changed its business?

Let’s start with the more automated production itself. Precise robots can also more accurately check the quality of products produced. Enhanced Reality helps employees make repairs. Using AR glasses, they can, for example, view the device diagram or use the camera to transmit the image to the chief engineer or to anyone who can supervise the repair process and give the necessary instructions. is a sustainable foundation. 5G is also used for factory transport, allowing the use of autonomously moving robots. Better energy management and safety in the form of more accurate monitoring of the entire plant area are also under threat.

What did you do in practice? The implementation period of the new production line has been reduced from three months to one week at a cost of 20%. In turn, the cost of maintaining the entire facility was reduced by 30%. The number of production interruptions due to various malfunctions and unforeseen circumstances has been reduced to zero. The security of employees and the security of information stored on the company’s servers has also improved. Already without specific numbers, Haier also boasts of speeding up production time and ultimately delivering devices to customers.

Smart, unmanned mine

This is another area of ​​the industry where work on new digital solutions has been going on for a very long time. Yuexin Zhineng, a mining machine manufacturer, introduced its first smart solutions back in 2017. Sandaozhuang is the first unmanned mine in cultural China and was launched in 2019 and has been modernized over time with the addition of new technologies.

Unmanned aerial vehicles are, above all, much safer. I don’t think anyone needs to be convinced that this is not a safe job for a person. This does not mean that people do not work in the mines. Some vehicles and machines in the smart mine operate autonomously. These include, for example, trucks moving arbitrarily between designated points. But, for example, excavators are driven by people and they do it from a distance.

During the Mobile World Congress, Huawei argued that automated frost could save $ 138 million over five years.

One of the examples was an automated chemical plant. I must admit that I have not heard the presentation very well and it is so complicated that I prefer to discuss it without full information.

Our phones may not yet have 5G, but it is used in many parts of the world

Not enough is said in the context of the practical use of the 5G network. For purposes other than playing Netflix 4K or games. As a result, many people may think that since not everyone has 5G on their phones, in Poland it will not change a bit, new generation networks are not used. There can be nothing more wrong.

Admittedly, such widespread use of 5G in the industry can be found most quickly in China. The Chinese have identified global trends in this regard, and US efforts to combat Chinese technology have only pushed the world away from the Far East. China continues to develop, and the rest of the world is reluctant / unable to take advantage of this by listening to Americans. In the context of the 5G network, the struggle is already lost and nothing will change it. Europe and the United States must now be careful not to make this mistake when deploying 6G networks. There are still some wonderful years for this.
