April resulted in a slight increase in home Internet speed (1.7% – 78.7 Mb / s), mobile Internet (2.3% – 35.8 Mb / s) and changes in management positions. Last month, the fastest home internet was offered by UPC, and fiber-optic FTTH by Orange and Netia. The increase in speed will be achieved not only by modernizing the access infrastructure, but also by replacing old routers with Wi-Fi 6, which will allow users of SpeedTest.pl to achieve very good results in testing.
The April rating is taken as a basis 4 million measurements (including 902 thousand in mobile applications). This information applies to users from Poland.
UPC will rise to the first place in the ranking of home Internet providers
Customers of the national UPC operator (~ 157 Mb / s) achieved the highest data download speeds in the home Internet rating. INEA customers also exceeded the level of 150 Mb / s. The popularity of the fixed Internet access service provided by T-Mobile is growing, as evidenced by the increase in the number of tests. Over the past month, regular T-Mobile customers have downloaded data at an average speed of ~ 143 Mb / s. The list was closed by Vectra with a result of ~ 132 Mb / s.
Orange and Netia with the fastest fiber-optic Internet (FTTH)
The April FTTH rating is based on more than 418,000 people. measurements, which is 16.9% of the results of all fixed lines in Poland. The average speed of fiber-optic lines in March was 172.9 Mb / s, which is an increase of 1.6% compared to the previous month.
According to the representation in the context of the number of tests, the fiber-optic rating includes operators in the rating of home Internet throughout Poland. In April, Orange Netia overtook Net Mia by just 0.5 Mbps. Both operators recorded more than 180 Mb / s. The next places belong to INEA (~ 175 Mb / s) and T-Mobile (~ 146 Mb / s).
The new Wi-Fi 6 is 15 times faster than the “good old” 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi
A popular opinion is that Wi-Fi is slow and significantly underestimates the real capabilities of the access network. The topic is important because, according to research, the vast majority of SpeedTest.pl users use the Internet at home via Wi-Fi. Only some of the respondents connect to the network directly via cable. For most of these, the quality of the home wireless network is of great importance. In the meantime Up to 68% Wi-Fi test results Implemented in the range of 2.4 GHz. In addition to your equipment, this situation is also affected by the better propagation properties of low-frequency waves. Unfortunately, better coverage is achieved due to lower loading speeds, ie The average value is only 24.1 Mbit / s.
On the other hand, people who use newer standards, such as Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) and Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), have no reason to complain. The average data download speeds for both types of Wi-Fi networks in the country were 154.5 Mb / s and 362.8 Mb / s, respectively. Orange stands out against this background, where customers using the latest Funbox 6 router (offered at the highest rates) achieve an average download speed of about 555 Mb / s. The diagram below shows the results of Wi-Fi tests for several selected providers in Poland, depending on the standard.
Currently, the percentage of tests performed by users of the 802.11ax standard in Poland is still very low, at 0.4% of all Wi-Fi tests. However, you can observe a slow (but steady) decline in the share of tests performed in the 2.4 GHz range – about 10 pp in the last 14 months. in favor of faster standards. Fixed (about 10%) percentage of tests for category “the rest “ The 802.11n and 802.11a standards refer to measurements for networks operating in the 5 GHz band.
The problem of slow Wi-Fi networks does not only concern our country. The table below shows the structure of Wi-Fi tests for several selected countries based on user tests of our applications. In the United States and the United Kingdom, the share of tests in the 2.4 GHz band is less than 50%, and in Russia it is more than 80%. Poland is characterized not only by a high share of 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, but also by a relatively low share of faster Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac). The share of Wi-Fi 6 in all of these countries is still low, but this is expected to be the beginning of a path that will lead to higher customer satisfaction and loyalty to the ISP by changing routers. .
T-Mobile remains the leader among mobile internet providers
In April, the acceleration of mobile Internet was observed in some providers. The average data download speed for all operators was 35.8 Mb / s, which is 2.3% faster than the previous month.
T-Mobile ranks first in the mobile internet rating with a result of 44.2 Mb / s. The second place belongs to Orange (37.1 Mb / s), and the third place belongs to Play with the result of 34.6 Mb / s. Plus (28.8 Mb / s) was left off the podium.
If tests conducted in the national roaming range are released, the average data download speed on the Play network will increase from 34.6 Mb / s to 36.3 Mb / s.
