700GHz, 800MHz … 5G in the bands …

5G technology has caused a lot of controversy from the beginning. He understands that he has both supporters and opponents. But the truth is that its appearance in the world will not only increase the speed of data transmission. This will make it easier to access the network even where it is not yet possible. It is more satisfactory that the testing of this technology will begin in the next tapes.

Those who faithfully follow all the news about technological development are sure that it will be “for your brother” and on time. Such a group of people will probably be interested in news from a direct source. This is the Report of the President of the UKE for 2020. I will try to provide you with the information contained in this document that is relevant to you.

Probably the most interesting are the tests of 5G technology conducted by operators.

It was found out that the Electronic Communications Department made 329 decisions in 2020. They either grant or extend trial permits. In the document on the government’s website, we can read about the tests in the 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 3.5 GHz, 26 GHz and 28 GHz bands. Most tests were performed in the 3.5 GHz band. Play and Orange became the most active operators. The game was tested in ten cities in Poland: Gdansk, Gdynia, Grójec, Krakow, Sokołów Podlaski, Torun, Szczyrk, Warsaw, Wroclaw, Zakopane). Almost all of these tests took place in the 3.5 GHz band.

It is interesting to note that Play had three base stations operating in the 26 GHz band for 5G testing.

Play has been tested in up to ten cities (all tested in the 3.5 GHz band, and one in the 26 GHz band). In total, Play conducted research on sixteen base stations. Tests in the 3.5 GHz band will run until January 10, 2021, and in the 26 GHz band until June 31, 2021. Orange has become another very dynamic institution in this regard. The company has tested in six cities: Chorzów, Katowice, Lublin, Warsaw, Lodz and Zakopane. In the first five tests, it was exposed to the 3.5 GHz band, and in Zakopane to 28 GHz. The 3.5 GHz tests were performed at a total of thirty-one base stations and two stations at 28 GHz. Measurements were carried out from February 2020 to January 10, 2021.

T-Mobile also conducted 5G tests.

This operator focused on testing in the 3.5 GHz band. The study was conducted in Warsaw, where fifteen base stations are used, and in Katowice, where five stations are used. The measurements were carried out from the end of February 2020 to January 10, 2021. It turned out that the tests of the new technology in our country were not carried out only by leading market operators. Aero2 has been tested in the 3.5 GHz band. They chose Siedlce as their research site. The tests lasted from August 28, 2020 to the end of November of that year. Three base stations were used for this purpose.

The report says similar 5G tests have been conducted by Lodz University of Technology and IS-Wireless.

Lodz University of Technology conducted tests in the 700 MHz band and in the 3.5 GHz band. For the 700 MHz tests, it used five base stations, and the tests were conducted between January 22, 2020 and February 28, 2021. The same operator performed measurements in the 3.5 GHz range using four base stations. These tests took place in March 2020. These tests are still ongoing. They are scheduled to be completed in May this year. IS-Wireless conducted tests in the 800 MHz band. It is a company from Piaseczno. It was also the site of their research, which began in October 2020. These tests are still ongoing. They should be completed in September this year. IS-Wireless uses a base station for measurements.

You can see more results in the table or in the UKE report.

Of course, this type of information is worth reading, not only when you are a fan of mobile technology. It is worth deepening your knowledge in this area, because these are the technologies we use every day. Ignorance on this subject causes a crowd to stop at a base station and try to set it on fire. Many people also run campaigns to discourage people from using new technologies. This, of course, is nonsense. In the Middle Ages, witches were burned at the stake for fear of women. The unfortunate fact is that despite technological progress, similar efforts are being made in the 21st century.
